The Littlest Song Book

7-17-16

Once upon a time, in a little town in Kentucky, there was a brown-haired girl with freckles. Every Sunday and Wednesday she went to church with her parents. Her great grandfather sat in the pew in front of her family. She would go up and sit with him. He would give her Juicy Fruit gum and find the songs in the little song book she liked. Singing was her favorite, and she loved singing with him. The little girl got big and moved away, but she always remembered singing with Popaw.

In His Image

7-10-16

When you meet someone, what do you think? Do you immediately notice your differences? Wonder what they think about you? It's easily done. What happens if they're not just like you? Do you start fidgeting in your shoes?

Splitting the Strawberry

6-5-16

It finally happened. The first garden strawberry of the season. My favorite food is strawberries straight out of the garden, washed, and eaten while you can still taste the sun's warmth in the juicy sweetness. The first one this year came by itself, and I was beside myself with excitement.

The Father, the Son, and the Cross

3-27-16

Today was a beautiful Easter Sunday. Even though we as Christians celebrate Jesus' resurrection every first day of the week, it seems especially fitting to take a few minutes this week to think about what happened on the cross. Both the Father and the Son made sacrifices for it to happen, and they did it willingly and together.

Who did you sharpen today?

3-6-16

Who we spend time around has an impact on us. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” Aren’t there people that you just know when you see them it will make you feel better? On the other hand, sometimes we expect to feel down after we spend time with other people. God wants us to lift each other up.

Love

2-14-16

Well friends, it's another snowy Sunday! I hope you are all safe and warm. By the way, Happy Valentine's Day! Today we will cover love, the last in our 2 Peter series. I didn't arrange the schedule this way, but I think it's pretty neat. In case you missed it, the last post was about brotherly kindness, and you can read it here.

Brotherly Kindness

2-7-16

We are almost to the end of our 2 Peter series! The last topic in case you missed it was godliness, and you can read it here. Today’s topic is brotherly kindness.

Can a Christian love homosexuals and not homosexuality? And is homosexuality wrong?

7-12-15

Debate can be good. It means people are thinking and haven’t yet become robots. I consider myself to be a logical Christian. In fact, the Bible teaches that we are to study for ourselves and to verify what we are taught. In light of God’s desire for people to be life-long learners, I want to provide, to the best of my ability, a reasoned answer to the questions I posed in the title.

Limiting God

5-20-15

God is big. I mean really, really big. Infinitely big. And that's something that, as mere people, is hard to comprehend. If I could put a soundtrack on this blog post it would be Christina Perri's "Human". When our reality is that overwhelmed sense of only being able to take just so much of what life flings our way, it's far too easy to forget that God is omnipotent. All powerful. Nothing is bigger or stronger or more powerful than God. Do we let Him be big? Or do we unconsciously put Him in the same box we must accept fitting into ourselves?
